Welcome to the web site of the Finnish breed club representing the Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka!
Venäjänbolonkat ry is a nationwide and official breed club of Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka in Finland. The club belongs to the Finnish Toy Dog Association. On these pages you will find a wide range of information about the breed and our club. Anyone interested in the breed is welcome to join the club.
Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka (Russian Colored Lapdog) was created in the 1950’ies and 1960’ies in the former Soviet Union, nowadays Russia. As the name of the breed suggests, there was a demand for a small companion dog breed. Some breeds that are known to be the ancestors of Bolonki are the French Bichon, Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu.
The Finnish Kennel Club approved Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka to be registered in 2013. The breed is so far not recognized by the International Canine Federation (FCI), but in addition to Russia many European countries along with the United States do recognize the breed.
Bolonka has typically a colored rich and moderately curly or wavy coat. All coat colors with the exception of white and merle are acceptable, but only tiny white markings are allowed. The body is just a little longer than the height from the withers which should be ideally 26 centimeters or less. The ideal weight is from 3 to 4 kilos. The character is lively, gentle and stable. Therefor the breed is a great companion for many kinds of people. In addition of being family dogs some representatives of the breed can be seen in dog shows and attending some dog sports.
